LEED-H Awareness & Education

The AE section of LEED for Homes (LEED-H) is recognition that building a sustainable home is only the first step.  Educating the the owner about their new home is the next step.

AE 1 - Education of the Homeowner or Tenant

1.1 Basic Operations Training  (prereq) - At Sustainable Designs we provide you with a comprehensive operating manual for your new home, like the owners manual for your car.  It will show you the process your home took to achieve LEED certification and the important details of how your home will work for you, operation of all the mechanical equipment and preventive maintenance.  It will even tell you what type of compact fluorescent lamps to buy and where to get replacement air filters.

1.2 Enhanced Training (1 pt) - The manual is a start and you always have it for reference.  We go further and spend at least two hours with you in your new home to explain the manual and what's in it.

1.3 Public Awareness - If you agree, we can hold an open house in your new home to help educate the public in the benefits of building a LEED certified sustainable home, 1 point is available.

Summary - The USGBC wants to you to know how great your new home will perform and they want you to help spread the word.  We pick up our last point here.
